5 tips for a stress-free moving day

|

It may be pretty safe to say there are very few people in the world that genuinely enjoy moving house! Between packing up your entire life into boxes, lifting multiple heavy objects, getting rid of all that junk you’ve accumulated over the years, and eventually having to unpack everything, it’s definitely a stressful event. Never fear, here are 5 tips to help ensure that your big move is as stress-free as possible:

#1: Make time to move

On your big moving day, make sure that moving is the only thing you plan to do that day – avoid making lunch plans with friends, or telling your boss you’ll stop by work to finish a report. It’s going to be a busy, busy day, so it’s best to keep your schedule completely clear so you can focus on getting everything done!

#2: Plan your meals

Moving is hard work, so it’s important to make sure you’ve got plenty of energy for the day. Your kitchen will most likely be all packed up, so it is a good idea to prepare some snacks and drinks beforehand to keep you going throughout the day. Make sure you take time out to sit down and eat, rather than eating on the go.

#3: Throw out your junk

Save yourself some unpacking stress when you reach your new home by de-cluttering as you pack up your home. Instead of keeping all your old junk, use the time spent packing to decide what needs to go and put it aside to be donated to a charity, or taken to the tip. Your future self will thank you!

#4: Pack an overnight bag

The last thing you’re going to want to do after a whole day of moving is go through your unpacked boxes to find your toothbrush! Pack an overnight bag with your pyjamas, toothbrush, a change of clothes for the next day and whatever else you need for the night to avoid having to rummage through all your boxes when all you want to do is fall asleep.

#5: Enjoy yourself

Moving day may be long, exhausting and stressful, but it’s also important to enjoy yourself! Set up some music and dance your way through carrying boxes to the car or moving van. Get excited about getting to spend the first night at your new place. Laugh off any mishaps that may occur. A positive mindset will lead to a positive attitude, and a positive attitude will make it harder to be stressed on the day!
